State Licensing

In some skilled trades, helpers or apprentices work under a trained tradesman. Some of those tradesmen have a license from the state. The helper or apprentice usually does not need a license while learning.

To work at the highest levels in a trade and to earn more, an apprentice may complete on-the-job training and some number of classroom hours to get a license.  Some trades requiring a  license include Electricians, Plumbers, Real Estate Inspectors, and Well Drillers.

For state licensing information, go to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Click on Find Texas License Information, scroll down to your selected trade and click. The Frequently Asked Question section is usually most helpful.
