Eligibility: Children and spouses of members of the Non Commissioned Officers Association. Awards not limited by race, color, creed, national origin, or sex. For undergraduate study at accredited colleges and universities. Children of members must be under age 25 to receive initial grant. Grants to the designated school may be used for room and board, tuition, library fees, textbooks, and related instructional material. There are 16 new awards annually.
Number and value of scholarships: $900 - 9 academic awards to children of members; 4 academic awards to spouses of members $1,000 - From among all applications, 2 special $1,000 grants are awarded each year - the Mary Barraco Scholarship presented to the student submitting the best essay on Americanism, and the William T. Green Scholarship presented to the student with the best high school academic record.
Students must reapply each year through the Scholarship Fund for consideration for renewal of their grants. They will be notified if their renewal has been approved. Students must maintain a "B" average and carry the prescribed minimum of 15 hours to be considered for renewal.
Application Packets: Include with completed application: two letters of recommendation from teachers; a personal recommendation from an adult who is not a relative; a handwritten autobiography; certified transcript of high school or college grades; ACT or SAT scores; and a composition on Americanism (not less than 200 words).
